You may have heard a lot about the African Mango extract, and are wondering exactly what this fruit is and how it could possibly help you lose weight. I was pretty skeptical after learning that several of the so called magic fruit diet supplements, like the acai berry, were not really based on much other than artificially created hype. What I found out about the African Mango extract was very interesting and I wanted to share it with you to save you some time.
The African Mango extract comes from an actual fruit, often called the bush mango, that has been eaten by villagers in Cameroon for decades. Besides the great taste, the natives made it a regular part of their diet because of the health benefits the fruit promoted. As it turns out, this is not just one of those “native magic secrets” that companies like to sell stories of. Scientists have actually gone and studied this fruit and reported their findings.
The formal name for the fruit used in African Mango extract is irvingia gabonensis, and some of the best nutrition comes from grinding up the nut of the mango. In addition to doing laboratory studies and other scientific stuff, they actually used this ingredient in a study with real participants to measure how it helps with weight loss. Obviously, this is far more interesting to me than any of the protein compound details or anything like that, so I just focused on the results.
Every morning several participants were given irvingia gabonensis with their morning meals, while others were given a placebo. Of course, all participants thought they were being given the same thing. It turns out the group that had this healthy part of the bush mango every morning did better with their weight loss than the others. They also reported no side effects I’m aware of, which makes sense given that they were basically just eating a natural food.
So how could a fruit actually help lose weight? It seems the African Mango extract helps the body produce leptin, which is good for managing appetite. It also helps boost energy, with some consumers reporting a “buzz” type feeling like one might get from a small amount of caffeine (but not actually caffeine related, which is a good thing.) Those who use this extra energy to help with exercise find much faster weight loss results.
It seems that once these results became more well-known, companies started to turn the product into a diet supplement and use an African Mango extract. Of course, different companies will use different levels of quality or try to get away with knock off products, so it is important to check that a product you are checking out uses actual African Mango extract. That is one of the reasons, in addition to the really low price to try it out, that I recommend the version I do.
